How It Works
Transponder
Each horse has its own transponder, which receives up to 25 different satellite feeds. In addition, the transponders also have built-in motion sensors which include accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers. They also include integrated Bluetooth connectivity to enable other external sensors and devices, such as heart-rate monitors. Each transponder communicates its data live to the central base station installed on the track for improved processing capabilities.
Radio Receiver
To ensure a robust, local data link to transponders, one or more radio receivers are installed, depending on the track. These receivers utilize military-grade technology, enabling them to operate in harsh and demanding environments. This guarantees stable live data reception from the transponder tags. The system can receive up to 25 satellite links from various satellite constellations from as many as 40 transponders.
Base Station
A stationary base station is installed on each track. This base station has two main purposes:
- Precise reference station functionality to provide real-time compensation to RAW GNSS data based upon an accurately calculated reference point.
- Remote control of each transponder tag to change its mode.
Server And Software
The stationary base station can either be connected over standard Ethernet technology to a venue-based back-end server or to a virtual server running at a central facility or cloud.
From the server, a live data feed containing position data and additional data from the transponders on each horse is provided as a continuous feed which is distributed to various applications downstream.
