GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) makes it possible to pinpoint location with extraordinary precision. While GPS is widely known, GNSS uses multiple satellite networks to achieve higher accuracy.
At ZXY Tracking, we apply GNSS to track people, horses, and vehicles in motion with a precision of up to 10 centimeters. We also capture split and finish times down to hundredths of a second, giving organisers, teams, bettors, and fans from a broad spectrum of sports reliable data to understand what’s really happening at the venue.

ZXY Tracking is Chyron’s high-precision GNSS-based system for real-time positional and speed tracking, delivering centimeter-level accuracy with latency under 150 milliseconds. Purpose-built for sporting and racing events, it offers unmatched reliability in dynamic, high-stakes environments.
Developed and engineered in Norway, our system has been extensively tested in the field and performs consistently in extreme conditions ranging from -20°C to 60°C.

When Every Fraction of a Second Counts
In a 1000 meter race, horses reach speeds of 60 km h, covering nearly 17 meters per second. In alpine ski racing, downhill competitors can descend at up to 130 km h, covering about 36 meters per second. In motorsport, racing cars can hit 300 km h, travelling over 80 meters per second. A timing error of just 0.1 second can translate into several meters of difference on the course, often the margin between first and second place.
ZXY Tracking eliminates that uncertainty by providing consistent, real-time data with millimetric accuracy.
How GNSS Positioning Works
Each wearable transponder receives signals from multiple satellites. These signals include highly accurate timestamps, allowing the system to determine the transponder’s position in three dimensions.
The system calculates:
- Latitude
- Longitude
- Elevation
- Clock synchronization for accuracy
This data is processed in real time, allowing immediate access and application.
Game-Changing Technology for Sports Events
ZXY Tracking works through three integrated components:
- Lightweight Transponders (100g): Worn by each person, horse, or vehicle, capturing movement with high precision.
- Base Stations: Installed around the venue to receive GNSS signals from the transponders.
- Cloud-Based Vault Server: Processes and distributes the data instantly.
The system supports up to 40 people, horses, or vehicles per event and captures key metrics such as:
- Timestamps for distance and sectionals.
- Global and local coordinates (latitude, longitude, X, Y, Z).
- Speed, acceleration, stride rate (horse racing), and stride length (horse racing).
- Gallop indicators (horse racing).
